At Love and Light 888, we strive to be a guiding light in our community, connecting individuals facing substance use challenges with treatment, recovery, and housing support. You're not alone—help is available 24/7, confidential, and often free or low-cost. Many programs accept Medi-Cal, private insurance, or self-pay.
Substance use support includes detox, outpatient/residential treatment, counseling, 12-step programs, family therapy, intervention, and housing bridges like Recovery Bridge Housing (RBH).

Recovery Bridge Housing (RBH) – Housing Support for Treatment Participants
If you're enrolled (or planning to enroll) in outpatient or intensive outpatient substance use treatment and are homeless or unstably housed, Recovery Bridge Housing (RBH) may be a perfect fit. It's a Medi-Cal-funded benefit through LA County (DPH-SAPC) providing short-term, peer-supported, sober transitional housing as a "bridge" to stability while you continue treatment.
Step-by-Step: How to Get RBH (If You Have Medical Needs)
1. Confirm or Start Treatment
You must be enrolled in (or referred to) an eligible outpatient program: Outpatient (ASAM 1.0), Intensive Outpatient (IOP/ASAM 2.1), Opioid Treatment Program (OTP), or Ambulatory Withdrawal Management (OP-WM).
- Use providers listed below (e.g., Design for Change, Twin Town, National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence) or call a hotline above to get assessed/enrolled quickly.
- Mention any medical needs (co-occurring mental health, chronic conditions, MAT prescriptions) during assessment—programs coordinate care and prioritize vulnerable individuals.
2. Check Eligibility
- 18+ years old.
- LA County resident.
- Medi-Cal eligible (or can enroll—providers often help).
- Homeless/unstably housed (including couch surfing).
- Actively engaged in treatment.
- Ready to maintain sobriety in a structured environment.
3. Apply/eRefr
No direct public form—your treatment provider submits the request:
- Tell your treatment provider (from this page or 211 referral) you need RBH—they handle authorization via SAPC/Sage system.
- Call 211 (or 800-399-6993) 24/7—they refer you to a treatment program with RBH beds and guide the process.
- Or call SASH at 1-844-804-7500 or 800-854-7771 for help.
- Providers like Roots Through Recovery, L.A. CADA, Tarzana Treatment Centers, Impact Drug & Alcohol often have RBH beds—ask them directly.
4. Next Steps
- Provider assesses/approves (includes ASAM criteria and medical necessity).
- If approved, move into RBH housing (peer-supported sober environment).
- Continue treatment + get case management, housing navigation, and permanent housing links.
- For medical needs: Providers coordinate care; relapse policies are supportive (focus on re-engaging sobriety, not automatic eviction).
Tips for Medical Needs
- Mention health conditions or MAT upfront—RBH prioritizes and supports it.
- If urgent medical crisis: Call 911 or go to ER first—then follow up with treatment/RBH.
- Availability varies (beds prioritized)—call 211 or SASH for real-time options.
RBH is a powerful bridge: treatment + housing = stronger recovery. Start with a hotline today—they'll guide you personally.

- Call the program/hotline first.
- Dial 211 for personalized referrals and real-time help.
- Bring ID, insurance info, and be ready for screening.
Recovery is possible—many programs link to sober living, employment, and housing. See our Sober Living page for recovery housing options.
