WINTER SHELTER

At Love and Light 888, we strive to be a guiding light in our community, connecting those experiencing unsheltered homelessness with life-saving winter shelter options during LA's colder months. Our mission is to help individuals find warmth, safety, and pathways to stability with dignity and care.

The LAHSA Winter Shelter Program provides seasonal beds, meals, showers, security, and supportive services to protect people from cold/rain. It runs November 1, 2025 – March 31, 2026 (currently active, but most sites are no longer accepting new clients—focus on transitioning existing participants).

 What to Expect

- Warm, dry indoor sleeping (cot/bed in congregate setting).

- Meals (typically 3 per day), restrooms/showers, and basic needs.

- On-site security and case management for housing referrals.

- 12-24 hour access (must leave by set time daily).

- Primarily for single adults 18+ and transitional youth 18-24

How to Access – Quick & Easy

1. Find a Winter Shelter Site: Download/view the official LAHSA Winter Shelter list (includes all active sites by SPA, addresses, phones, beds, providers, and status):

 2. Check Availability & Get Help:

   - Dial 211 (or 800-399-6993) 24/7—operators check real-time bed availability, make referrals, and arrange transportation if possible.

   - Or call the Winter Shelter Hotline: (800) 548-6047 (for intake/checks).

   - Self-referral: Go directly to a site if space is available (first-come, first-served).

 3. For Severe Weather: If heavy rain/cold activates the Emergency Response Program (ERP), more beds/motel vouchers may open—call 211 to confirm.

Important Tips & Verification

Always verify details directly, as beds fill quickly, hours/locations can change, and availability is limited late in the season. If you have a phone:

- Call 211 or the hotline first.

- Visit https://211.org/ to search online or check updates.

- Bring ID and any belongings when possible.

Winter shelters are a temporary bridge—many link to permanent housing paths through case management.

If families are involved, see our Family Shelter page. We're here to help connect you—reach out anytime.

Additional Support

- For year-round options: Check Access Centers or Emergency Housing pages.

- LAHSA main site: https://www.lahsa.org/get-help

- In immediate danger/cold: Call 911 or 211.
